What is a bin switch?

A bin switch — also called a swap or an exchange — is when a container fills before the job is finished and the operator replaces it in a single visit. It is priced as its own service because it is effectively a pull.

What it costs

Priced by each operator as its own service, because it costs a truck trip and a tipping fee much as a pull does.

When it comes up

Mid-project on roofing, demolition and large cleanouts. Surfacing it inside the booking flow rather than waiting for a phone call is one of the cheapest upsells in the business.

Related terms

  • Pull — One delivery-and-collection cycle of a roll-off container.
  • Demurrage — A daily charge for keeping a container past the agreed rental period.
