Pricing guide

How to price
your dumpster rentals.

Start from what companies near you advertise. Then check the number against your landfill bill. Both are below, with sources.

The median advertised price for a 20-yard roll-off in the US is $449, from 798 prices dumpster companies published on their own sites in August and September 2026. Price from your own market first, then make sure the number covers your tipping fee, your truck's time and your margin.

Where you are matters as much as the size

Among states with at least 10 prices, the 20-yard median runs from $295 in Nebraska to $700 in Massachusetts. Utah's is $315 (13 prices), about 30% under the national median.

So a national average is a poor anchor. Search for a dumpster in your town, the way a customer would, and read the prices of the companies that come up.

Check it against your landfill

The tipping fee is usually the biggest cost that changes from pull to pull. The national average was $62.28 a ton in 2024 (EREF, 2024 survey of 351 facilities). In Utah the median is $36 a ton (15 facilities, same Dumpster Controls data).

A 3-ton load costs about $187 to dump at the national average and about $108 at Utah's median. That comes before fuel, a driver's time and the days the can sits. Your price has to clear all of it.

Say exactly what the price includes

  • The rental period. How many days, and the rate per extra day (demurrage).
  • The weight allowance. How many tons, and the rate per ton past it (overage). Never below your tipping fee.
  • The trip you could not complete. A blocked driveway still costs you a run (dry run).
  • What cannot go in. Permits and specialty debris are usually extra. List them.

Then publish it

Seventy-two percent of consumers look at three or fewer businesses before deciding (BrightLocal Consumer Search Behavior 2026, n=1,227). A price on your site answers the first question before the phone rings, and makes you easy to pick from a short list.
