What is a Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile is the listing that controls how a business appears on Google Maps and in local search — categories, services, service area, hours, photos and reviews. It is what populates the map pack.

What it costs

Free to own and run. Managed service bought on its own varies widely in price; GMB Gorilla, for one, publishes $400 a month. The profile also supplies about 45% of AI citations in the services category (BrightLocal, 2026), which makes it the highest-leverage free asset a local operator has.

When it comes up

Continuously. The common failure is not a bad profile but an abandoned one — set up once, never reopened, with the service area wrong and the categories half filled.
